The Skye & Rey Financial Literacy Fund is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty and debt through early financial literacy education programs for children.
Decisions people make as young adults can have lasting consequences for years or even decades. Early financial education is key to establishing good financial habits that will carry into adulthood. People must learn as children because stakes are higher as adults.
So what can you do? Give your resources to neighborhoods, schools, and communities in a way that will lift up people from their economic stress. Education is a way for children from economically distressed communities to break the cycle of poverty.
Your charitable donation to the Skye & Rey Financial Literacy Fund is an investment with a proven return based on research.
EARLY FINANCIAL EDUCATION IS KEY TO BREAKING GENERATIONAL CYCLES OF POVERTY.
The Pew Charitable Trusts conducted a landmark study on economic mobility across generations. It found that 43% of children born into the bottom 20% of household incomes are likely to remain there as adults.
The cost of not addressing this through early financial education for children is real.
Nobel Prize-winning economist James Heckman’s research shows that by age 5, gaps between economically advantaged and disadvantaged children predict school achievement, dropout probability, adult earnings, health outcomes, and economic mobility.
Heckman’s conclusion: early childhood investment produces a meaningful return to society, not as charity, but as sound economic policy. Every dollar invested in children during their early years reduces the need for remediation, intervention, and social support systems later.
Teaching financial literacy in elementary school is exactly that kind of early investment.
Financial Literacy Days is a program sponsored by Bonzy. Volunteers conduct interactive read-aloud sessions in kindergarten through second grade elementary school classrooms. Every student receives a book.
